she decided that the farm should change its focus to raising sheep.  While searching for the ideal breed of sheep for Kellane Farm, Michelle stumbled across an article in Hobby Farms magazine about Babydoll Southdowns.  The article noted that Babydolls are small, easy keepers and have excellent wool for knitting/spinning.  Those wonderful qualities, combined with their incredible cuteness, quickly brought the search for the "perfect sheep" to an end!

Michelle is the official owner/manager of the farm, but she is also a stay-home mother of two human children.  She has a bachelors degree in graphic design, but has many other interests which include painting, drawing, photography, and the above mentioned fiber arts.  If you would like to see some of her artwork, please go to:

Her husband, Kirk Lane, is a family physician at the Krohn Clinic in Black River Falls and part-time "agent" of the farm.  In general, his agent duties require him to build fences, compost bins, and do other projects around the farm in his rather sparse free time.  The human children - Hayley and Evan - are 19 and 13 years old respectively.

Life on a "farmlet" is never dull.  There is always something to do - whether it is feeding and watering the animals, giving vaccinations, deworming, or shoveling manure (just to name a few activities).  If you want to read more about what is going on here at the farm, click on the following link:

Please feel free to call or email us at any time.  We love to talk about these wonderful little sheep! Visitors are always welcome, but please call or email first to schedule a time.

Kellane Farm LLC is a small "farmlet" owned by Michelle Lane, who breeds registered Babydoll Southdown Sheep.
This quaint little farmlet is nestled amongst the trees on a hillside in Black River Falls, Wisconsin - a beautiful town that is easily accessible because it is just off of I-94 (almost exactly two hours from Minneapolis, Minnesota and two hours from Madison,Wisconsin).  The farmlet originally started out as a dream Michelle had as a child growing up in Kentucky...to someday breed horses.  Growing up in the Bluegrass State, it's only natural to love horses.  However, being on land that is covered with decades old trees and steep hills makes it a bit of a challenge to establish a horse farm.  Since Michelle was becoming increasingly obsessed  with knitting and spinning,
"As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day." Ezekiel 34:12
